A Letter from the YP President

Rahshib Thomas, NYULYP PresidentGreetings,

On behalf of the New York Urban League Young Professionals (NYULYP), I’d like to welcome you to our home on the web and thank you in advance for your support of our continuing efforts to make the NYULYP the premier young professional civil rights organization in New York City.   We’ve accomplished a great deal so far, but there is much more that needs to be done.

We are in the right place at the right time for a new season of the civil rights movement.  Although change is arriving throughout our nation, the challenges we face are great.  The demand for resources continues to increase and fewer provisions are available to meet those needs.  Now, more than ever, your support and alignment with our movement is crucial in allowing us to continue making significant strides in the areas we are of service.  Specifically, our programming for the fiscal year focuses on education and employment, embodying the National Urban League’s empowerment agenda, which includes:

  • Education and Youth Empowerment
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Health and Quality of Life Empowerment
  • Civic Engagement Empowerment
  • Civil Rights and Racial Justice Empowerment

As a Young Professional civil rights organization, our goal is to activate and engage young professionals dedicated to developing and actualizing programs and services that will assist all New Yorkers in obtaining social and economic equality.  My personal goals during this term will be to mark a period of SMART Growth in areas of membership, fund development, personal and professional development for our members and, most importantly, to be of greater value and impact to our constituency residing in the five boroughs of New York City, placing all on a path to power.

I cannot thank you enough for your commitment to the movement and your dedication to sowing opportunity, ability and imagination in the lives of those who need it most.  Therefore, as we reflect on our historical achievements that ushered in resounding change, we realize that "next" is "now." I ask for your continued partnership as we purpose to "Empower Communities and Change Lives."

Yours in the movement,

Rahshib A. Thomas
President
