About the event
This year, Young Men’s Empowerment Day will be held on June 10th, 2022. Empowerment Days allow young men to engage in conversations about careers and opportunities after high school. Past sites and participating leaders include Google, Facebook, ABC and L’Oreal and actress Kim Cole and R&B legend Mary J. Blige.
The New York Urban League has developed empowerment days for young women and young men who are currently in high school, where 200 students visit one of our empowerment sites to explore careers throughout New York City. Leaders from business, government, public, and sports/entertainment will introduce young men or women to careers, speak to them about their personal journey to success, and provide a glimpse into a world many of these students have never seen before. Employees can educate students about a variety of careers that they may not have known existed and to describe the various paths employees have taken to get into the positions they hold. The day concludes with a panel discussion or mini-roundtable discussions with a celebrity guest and others bringing a message of empowerment.
Commitment forms and registration for each student must be submitted by Friday, June 10th 2022. Students must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and commit to participating for the entire day (8:30am-3:30pm). A more detailed agenda outline of day with all confirmed sites and guest speakers will be emailed closer to the events.
