Dear NYUL Family,
I am pleased to welcome you to the newly minted NYUL newsletter! Like you all COVID has provided a set of challenges for our community and our organization. We are thrilled that new partners, volunteers, our committed board and the ever-present Young Professionals have allowed us to meet today’s challenges in some innovative ways.
During COVID we provided cash grants and food to families that we serve in our education and employment, we coordinated Town Halls to provide information on testing, then the vaccine itself. And we created two new initiatives to address the inequities that COVID revealed.
In this edition of the newsletter, you will hear about our how our newly launched Small Business Solutions Center is uniquely meeting the needs of small business owners hit by COVID. We have also launched an initiative to support corporations that pledged to fight systematic racism following the murder of George Floyd. The Diversity & Inclusion Lab is a platform for diverse talent, a space for Chief Diversity Officers and others to discuss issues and challenges, and a place for sharing best practices and developing break-thru strategies.
This year the New York Urban League will participate in Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving, powered by social media, collaboration, and campaigning. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for the New York Urban League’s Empowerment Days. As we all know, last year was an extremely difficult one for students as they faced social isolation, technology deserts and academic challenges. Empowerment Days provide an opportunity for young people to visit corporations around the city and learn about career possibilities that they might not ever imagine. I hope you will consider joining the team for Giving Tuesday.
And lastly, please enjoy the brief video featured above created by our partners The New York Jets. In their show “It Can’t Wait” four of our participants have the opportunity to share how NYUL has positively impacted their lives.
Thank you for your partnership.
Sincerely,
Arva Rice | President & CEO
New York Urban League, Inc.
